Origin: XX [etym. unknown]
Etymology: After the verbs of disease in -ιάω (Schwyzer 732), perh. onomatopoetic; cf. e.g. MLG pladderen `babble'. Or from *πλάδδω = πλάζω (s. v.) enlarged? Grammatical analysis by Bechtel Dial. 2, 378: from *πλάδδα `prating' = Att. *πλάζα like ἄζα, μάζα, φύζα(?).
